Written by Robert Woodhead, Interferon is a good non–commercial virus detection program.
It specifically looks for the nVIR and Scores viruses and applications of type
“ERIC” or “VULT” which are targeted by Scores. It also can report anomalies which might indicate other types of viruses, such as CODE resources in files besides applications, System files with their type changed, and “Extra” code resources as used in Scores and INIT 29.

Although Interferon has an “Eradicate Infection” option, it simply erases suspect files rather than trying to repair them. In any case I have been unable to get this option to work correctly.
Robert Woodhead also created the commercial virus control program called Virex. Interferon is obsolete since Virex came out.
